This might sound weird but... I think I was in this show? I remember playing a police officer in an episode about a missing truck driver. Pretty sure it was filmed in Bourke, must've been... late 70s? Early 80s? The thing is, I can't find any record of it anywhere. I remember getting the part through a friend at the station (police station, not TV station), and filming for two days. But when I try to remember specific details, they keep... shifting?
My wife says she remembers watching it when it aired, but she thinks it was in the 60s, which is impossible because I would've been a kid then.
Does anyone else remember an episode with a police officer? I think I was investigating something about a man who fell in a lake.

There was definitely a police officer episode but it wasn't about a lake, maybe some sort of shop theft? The cop was investigating reports the sold items were stolen but they were weird products. I watched it with my dad when I was little, would've been around 1965.

You sure it was Back of Bourke? There was never a police officer in any episode I remember. I've been researching this show for years and while there are a lot of conflicting memories about it, I'm certain about this.
Actually, there may have been a police officer standing next to a statue in one episode.

You're all mixed up. Back of Bourke never existed. I'm so sick of you guys.

My wife just said something really strange she says she remembers watching the episode I was in BEFORE we met. But that's impossible...
Does anyone have any TV guides from back then? Any newspapers? There must be some record of this show existing.

I work at ABC Archives and there's absolutely no record of this show ever being made. No production files, no broadcast records, nothing. But here's the thing: I remember watching it too. And I specifically remember a police officer episode because it scared me so much as a kid. The officer found something in the jail cells... something about time being wrong? Was your uniform khaki or light blue?

I can't remember what colour the uniform was at the time because I can't remember when it was. I had blue and khaki at different times through my career.
The jail cells though... that rings a bell. Something about a prisoner who was there but also wasn't there? Or was that a different episode?
EDIT: Just found an old photo from my police days in Bourke. The station in the photo doesn't look anything like I remember from the show. But I'm sure that's where we filmed...

Hey RetiredCop Question: In your memory of filming the episode, were there lots of paintings.
The reason I ask is that my grandfather was a set designer in Australian TV (or at least, I remember him being one), and he used to talk about a show that he had to mount and paint hundreds of pictures for. ring a bell?

I've been researching Australian television for 30 years and I can tell you with absolute certainty that no show called "Back of Bourke" was ever produced by any network in this country.
And yet... I have this vivid memory of writing a paper about it for my thesis. I can even remember the police officer episode. It was significant because it was the only episode where something truly horrorifying happened, in the jail cell.
Edit: I just checked my thesis and there's no mention of the show anywhere. How can we all remember something that never existed?

I don't know what's real anymore. My wife now says she never watched the show at all and doesn't know what I'm talking about. But last week she was the one who reminded me about being in it!
I tried to find my old call sheets or payment records but there's nothing. It's like the memory is so clear but impossible at the same time.
But then why do I remember the smell of dust in the air while filming? Why do I remember the way the sunlight hit the statue? Why do I remember the exact sound the cell door made?
Unless... those aren't even my memories?
